The Lyra Young Artist Program is extremely selective. Applicants must demonstrate a high level of proficiency on their instrument and be able to learn advanced repertoire quickly. Although prior chamber music experience is not required, preference will be given to students who have previously worked in ensembles. Individuals or preformed groups are welcome to apply. You may apply on more than one instrument or with more than one group, however, a separate application and fee are required for each instrument or group for which you would like to apply. Please note: students will only be accepted into the program for one instrument. If you are not selected for the Lyra Young Artist Program, your application will automatically be considered for the Lyra Core Curriculum Program.
All Lyra Young Artist Program applicants must audition live OR submit two unedited solo video recordings (preformed ensemble applicants must also audition live or by video with solo pieces in addition to their ensemble video submission). Applicants should include two contrasting pieces from different eras. For string players, preferably at least one movement from a concerto. Accompaniment for string players is requested, but not required. Preformed ensembles should additionally submit two contrasting movements from within the ensemble's repertoire, to be included with the Preformed Ensembles Form. Video recordings should be submitted with links to YouTube or Vimeo on your online application. Please ensure that your video's privacy settings will allow us to view it. Please label your video's title and description with the student’s name, instrument, and recorded repertoire. Recordings do not have to be professional quality. Please double check your submission for playability before sending.
Lyra Music Festival and Workshop is open to advanced and intermediate violinists, violists, cellists and pianists ages 9-18. Exceptions may be made in outstanding circumstances. Please Note: participants ages 11 and younger must be accompanied by a full-time parent or guardian for the duration of the workshop. Applicants may apply on more than one instrument, however, a separate application and fee are required for each instrument for which you wish to audition. Please note that students will only be accepted into the program for one instrument.
All applicants must audition live or submit an unedited video recording. You will have the option to sign-up for a live audition slot when you complete the online application. Applicants should prepare two contrasting pieces. Submissions should include repertoire of the student’s choice, and should be representative of the student’s current level of musicianship. For those who choose video auditions: video recordings should be submitted electronically (you will have the option to include video submissions when you complete the online application) with links to YouTube or Vimeo on the application. Please ensure that your video's privacy settings will allow us to view it. Please label your video's title and description with the student’s name, instrument, and recorded repertoire. Recordings do not have to be professional quality, and may be accompanied or unaccompanied. Please double check your submission for playability before sending.
