JAROD YAP
COLLABORATIVE PIANIST
Collaborative pianist Jarod Yap always strives to portray music as a human experience. In the 2023-2024 season, he has performances at Carnegie Hall, Alice Tully Hall, St. Patrick’s Cathedral, Bruno Walter Auditorium, The Juilliard School of Music, and Yale School of Music. Recent highlights include working with Hilary Hahn on her collaboration with the Juilliard Dance Division, winning the NFMC Virginia Allison Award in Collaborative Piano, and masterclasses with Susan Graham, Julius Drake, and Angelo Xiang Yu. He has collaborated with violinist David Chan, tenor Michael Butler, soprano Gemma Nha, BPO oboist Joshua Lauretig, cellists Amy Barston and Horatio Contreras, BPO bassoonist Doron Laznow, bassist Kebra Seyoun-Charles, and Broadway singer Kanisha Feliciano among others.
Aiming to make an impact on the classical music industry, he is the founder of Vision Possible Charity Concerts. In Houston, he was the recipient of the Sviatoslav Richter Fund for Music Outreach where he created music education initiatives for homeless youth. As a teacher, he maintains an online teaching studio, both privately and through Forte. Past students have performed at Carnegie Hall and attended Indiana University Piano Academy and Piano Texas Juniors. He will give a master class at BRAVO International Chamber Music Workshop this summer.
He is grateful for musical influences such as Mary Handley from the Royal Conservatory of Music, Jeanne Kierman Fischer and Tom Jaber from Rice University, Cameron Stowe from Aspen Music Festival, and Jonathan Feldman from the Music Academy of the West. Notable masterclasses include playing for Augustin Hadelich, JoAnn Falletta, Rita Sloan, Martin Katz, Joseph Conyers, Dominik Wagner, Fabio Bidini, Boris Berman, and Edgar Meyer among others. He is a recent graduate of The Juilliard School where he received his Master’s of Music under the tutelage of Dr. Lydia Brown.
He is the son of Dr. Johnny and Christina Yap and the older brother of Constance Yap.
