JAROD YAP
STAFF COLLABORATIVE PIANIST
Collaborative pianist Jarod Yap always strives to portray music as a human experience. In the 2024-2025 season, he is a 2025 Song Studio Artist with a performance at Zankel Hall at Carnegie Hall, participant in Music for Food, and a master class teacher at the Brooklyn Music School. He has recitals with soprano Gemma Nha and violinist Sam Parrini, regular collaborations with musicians from the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra and Houston Symphony Orchestra, and is the soloist in Gershwin’s Rhapsody in Blue with the Greater Buffalo Youth Orchestra. He has performed at distinguished venues such as Carnegie Hall, Alice Tully Hall, and St. Patrick’s Cathedral. Recent highlights include working with Hilary Hahn in her collaboration with the Juilliard Dance Division and winning the Virginia Allison Award in Collaborative Piano. Notable collaborators have included MET Orchestra Concertmaster David Chan, cellists Amy Barston and Horatio Contreras, and bassist Kebra Seyoun-Charles.
Aiming to make an impact on the classical music industry, he is the founder of the 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, Vision Possible Charity Concerts, which enables classical musicians in Buffalo, Houston, and New York City to collectively advocate for meaningful causes. He was the recipient of the Sviatoslav Richter Fund for Music Outreach where he created music education initiatives for homeless youth. As a teacher, he maintains an online teaching studio, both privately and through Forte. Past students have performed at Carnegie Hall and attended Indiana University Piano Academy and Piano Texas Junior. He has been faculty at the BRAVO International Chamber Music Workshop and on staff at the Lyra Music Festival.
He is grateful for musical influences such as Mary Handley from the Royal Conservatory of Music, Jeanne Kierman Fischer and Tom Jaber from Rice University, Lydia Brown from The Juilliard School of Music, Jonathan Feldman from the Music Academy of the West, and Cameron Stowe from Aspen Music Festival. Notable masterclasses include playing for JoAnn Falletta, Augustin Hadelich, Susan Graham, Angelo Xiang Yu, Anthony Roth Costanzo, Joseph Conyers, Dominik Wagner, Julius Drake, Roger Vignoles, Martin Katz, Hartmut Holl, Jonathan Ware, Keval Shah, Stephen Waarts, Rita Sloan, and Edgar Meyer among others. He currently works at The Juilliard School as a staff pianist for the College and Pre-College Divisions.
He is the son of Dr. Johnny and Christina Yap and the older brother of Constance Yap.
