Lyra Music’s Northampton Benefit Concert, the kick-off to building Lyra Music Scholarship Fund 2018, was a beautiful concert and reception in Northampton, MA and what a kick-off it was!
 
Thank you to everyone who attended and to all who have already contributed. Thank you to Duo Amie (Julie Reimann and Ellyses Kuan) and to Lyra Music Students Frederic Renaud and Max Milian, to Grant Moss and everyone at St. John’s Episcopal Church, to Alice and David Shearer and Mary Franks and to all who helped to make this event possible.

The Concert is over but you can still make a difference! 

Lyra Students were granted more than $18,000 in need-based scholarships in 2017.  
Nearly half of Lyra Music Students received this need-based financial aid last summer.  
Your contribution to the Lyra Music Scholarship Fund makes it possible for students,
who might not otherwise be able to attend, to be a part of this unique experience.

About the Artists

Ellyses Kuan (Piano)
A native of Hong Kong, Ellyses started taking piano lessons at age three. She received a full scholarship for her Masters Degree, studying Piano Performance with Barry Snyder at the Eastman School of Music, and was selected to represent Hong Kong at the International Kirishima Music Festival in Japan. Among her other major teachers and mentors were Dr. Siu-Wan Chair Fang and Paul Odette. She also performed in masterclasses by John Perry, Dang Thai Son and Malcolm Bilson. Ellyses is enthusiastic about chamber music and collaborates with artists from all over the world. She also performs as a soloist and is particularly passionate about Baroque and Classical performance practices, striving to bring authentic music interpretation to her audiences. Aside from being an active performer, Ellyses is currently the music director of EKS Music School and a founding member of Duo Amie, a cello and piano duo in the Greater Boston area. She also organizes and hosts house concerts at the Alida House Concert Series in the South Shore area. In 2014, Ellyses was invited by the Boston GuitarFest Roundtable Panel to speak about Entrepreneurship and Making a Career in Music Work, and her music school was also featured in the Boston Globe the same year. In 2017, she participated in the 42nd Annual Classical Music Festival Eisenstadt Summer Academy, in Eisenstadt, Austria. She is President-Elect of the Massachusetts Music Teacher Association. Her goal is to build a community, promote performing arts awareness, and support local young musicians through advocacy, inspiration and performance. She has recently set up a music scholarship fund at her school to support quality music programs in the area.

Julie Reimann (Cello)
Born in Connecticut, Julie Reimann started playing the cello at age nine, and began studying with Aldo Parisot (Yale School of Music), at age thirteen. Under his tutelage Julie performed throughout the United States, Canada, and Brazil, and won a number of music competitions, including Gold Medal in the New Haven Youth Symphony Young Artists Competition, First Prize in the Connecticut Chamber Orchestra Young Artists Competition, and Second Prize in the Fischoff National Chamber Music Competition Junior Division. Julie earned her Bachelor of Music degree in 1992 from Curtis Institute of Music where she was a student of David Soyer of the Guarneri String Quartet. During her four years at Curtis, Julie was an invited performer in the Nationale Academie de Violoncelle in Paris, France, as well as the Banff Music Festival, Rencontres Musicales d’Evian, Musicorda Music Festival, and Norfolk Chamber Music Festival, and performed in the United States, Canada, and Europe. She won First Place in the Alliance Auditions National Music Competition in 1991, and was Principal cellist of the Curtis Symphony Orchestra in her senior year. Julie graduated from Bryn Mawr College’s Post-baccalaureate Premedical Program in 1994, where she received the Horace Alwyn Prize for the student who contributed the most to musical life on campus. Julie continued to perform solo and chamber music recitals while pursuing her M.D. and Ph.D. in Biophysics at Stanford University (including in the Fortnightly Chamber Music Series in Palo Alto and Soiree Musicale Chamber Music Series at Villa Montalvo), and during her residency and fellowship in Boston. She continues to perform chamber music as well as solo recitals locally in various venues, including as a soloist with the Waltham Symphony Orchestra in 2016 (with whom she has also served as principal cellist), and as a workshop artist at the Lyra Summer Music Festival. She isa member of the Longwood Symphony Orchestra and is a founding member of Duo Amie, a piano cello duo dedicated to chamber music and performing benefit concerts for charity organizations. Julie is also a dermatopathologist and Director of Molecular Dermatopathology, at Miraca Life Sciences.
