About the Lyra Music YAP Program: The Lyra Music Young Artist Performance Program is a competitive, audition-based summer program, open to violinists, violists, cellists, and pianists ages 13-18, who demonstrate a high level of proficiency on their instruments and are able to learn advanced repertoire quickly. During this 2-week, conservatory-style classical music program, students will focus on performance technique and development through the unique experience of performing multiple times each week in a variety of settings including: indoor and outdoor community outreach concerts, a final gala student event held at the Howland Cultural Center, home of the Howland Chamber Music Circle, and opportunities to participate in and attend master classes and concerts produced for the Lyra Music Festival and performed by world-class guest artists.
We provide a small, intensive, yet nurturing music camp focused on achieving high standards of development through encouragement rather than competition, and working with the whole individual along with music-making. We maintain an unusually low staff to student ratio, and love the family-like, supportive atmosphere that results from a small student body. Students participate in private lessons and chamber music coaching with Lyra Music Festival guest artists-in-residence and experience multiple performance opportunities. Daily practice is supervised by counselors who help students hone practice skills including time management, organization and scheduling, formulating practice goals, selecting effective practice strategies, maintaining focus and concentration. We are enjoying incredible growth, and are excited to continue developing the program. Along with high level musical training, Lyra offers daily recreational activities, evening social activities, and fun regional excursions.
